Antoinette Brown has been awarded the 2025 Marie Dyson Award for 'Sleeping Evelyn' and her collection of graphite drawings. The assessor, Dr. Hannah Lyons, Curator of University Art Collections, University of Reading, said:
"Museums and galleries are full of paintings and sculptures of mothers. However, art that communicates the actual experience of motherhood is much rarer. Antoinette has done an incredible job of articulating the unspoken aspects of motherhood in these sensitive drawings."
The award, which recognises outstanding work in 2D and supports artists in developing their practice, was presented as part of the Reading Guild of Artists 94th Annual Exhibition, held at the University of Reading from 14–29 June 2025.
